Review of Boatwright’s Dining Hall – Disney’s Port Orleans Resort Riverside
Over the past twelve years, we’ve had breakfast at Boatwright’s Dining Hall five or six times. It still stands as our favorite non-character meal breakfast location.

Why? I think it has to do with the menu. Here you will find your traditional “let’s go out for Saturday breakfast” items that you find at your favorite local breakfast restaurant along with a few special dishes only found at Boatwright’s. We’ve also always had good service here and the atmosphere of the restaurant is unique.

There is a huge ship under construction over your head in the bottom level section of the restaurant and the top level has a gas fireplace which was indeed on when we had breakfast on Sunday July 20, 2008. I think it also has to do with the fact that for whatever reason, this restaurant just doesn’t seem so crazy busy as others do at breakfast time.

Over the years, things have changed. We and our friends still talk about a menu item from several years ago; the “Moo, Cluck, Oink”. You can guess what breakfast was. And gone are the days when you were presented with a small plate of warm cinnamon buns when you were first seated. But breakfast is still good.

For our breakfast we ordered, the Sweet Potato Cakes (recommended by our server) with well-done bacon, the breakfast combo with pancakes and sausage, and a child’s fruit plate off the children’s menu with a side of sausage links. Since we had already had several cups of coffee in our room before our 10am reservations, we simply ordered OJ for my husband, water for me, and chocolate milk for my daughter.

Our drinks came quickly as did our food. The Sweet Potato Cakes were served with to-die-for honey-pecan butter. I tend to watch my carb intake but that morning, I threw my carb counter out the window. These sweet potato hot cakes were that good! I’ve learned my lesson on well-done bacon though. It was pretty much tasteless. My fault. I guess I need to ask for “crunchy” bacon instead. My husband’s breakfast was huge. He couldn’t finish his blueberry pancakes but I tried to help him – they were very good. My daughter’s breakfast was perfect for her. She ate the fruit she liked, and I helped her with the ones she didn’t. After finishing her breakfast, my daughter commented on how good the sausage was. My husband also remarked about the sausage, and how much he liked it.

The prices seemed reasonable except for the juice my husband ordered. OJ is $2.49 a glass served in a small beverage glass. He wound up ordering two so his OJ came out to be about $5.00. That just seems a little high to me.
As we were heading to the parks after breakfast, we started talking about our meal. The entire meal from the time we sat down until the time we left took less than 40 minutes. Not that we were rushed by the staff at all. We could have stayed as long as we wanted. We were seated shortly after 10am though, so I’m sure they are a bit more rushed earlier in the morning. It hit me that it takes about as long to go to the food court, go to the various stations to get what we want, check out, find a table, and eat as it did to have a sit down breakfast at Boatwright’s. In comparing the costs for breakfast, our Boatwright’s breakfast was about $8-12 more than it would have been at the food court total for the three of us. Given it takes about the same times and costs just a little more per person, having a sit down breakfast and being waited on gets my vote! A Boatwright’s breakfast is definitely on our must do list when staying at one of the two Port Orleans resorts.
