Review of the Garden View Lounge Afternoon Tea
With much arm twisting, I convinced my husband to join my daughter and I at the afternoon tea on July 16, 2008, served at the Garden View Lounge in the lobby of the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. He agreed to come “to take pictures”.

Our reservation was for 2:00pm which is when the tea starts. We were seated at a lovely table with a love seat and two chairs. The host gave us our menus and we were given a few minutes to review. Our server came over to see if we had any questions. She suggested the most popular tea which she described as a cream cycle tea or orange and cream. My husband was sold! I inquired about the box of tea leaves that I had been given to help decide on which tea to choose and was told they no longer have the tea box. Oh well.
As I took a moment to look around the room, I found the entire lounge was now seated. What surprised me the most was a table of six men by themselves. It looked as if they had just gotten back from playing golf. What a great idea!
Since this was my fifth tea at the Garden View Lounge, I had already decided to order ala carte versus ordering the teas on the menu. For this tea, we ordered the cream cycle tea for my husband, black currant for me, and Mrs. Potts Tea (aka chocolate milk) for my daughter. Additionally, I ordered Sally Lunn Bread, the British Cheese Plate, and Scones for the three of us to share. We enjoyed the scones and bread with our teas and then ordered a glass of Iron Horse Sparkling Wine (for me) and a port (for my husband) to enjoy with our cheese plate. We ended our afternoon tea with a few pastries.
By this time, my husband was completely sold on afternoon tea. He really enjoyed our special treat as, of course, did my daughter and I. Tea is now part of our must do list.
I know afternoon tea is not on the top of most people’s list when planning a trip to Walt Disney World, but it is definitely worth trying. Everyone I have taken to tea agrees that afternoon tea in the day is a wonderful way to take a break, relax for a bit, get away from the crowds, and during the warmer months, cool down!
