Tips for a Stress-free Trip to Walt Disney World
| Let’s face it. The last thing you want while on vacation is stress. You’re on vacation to get away from stress at work, home or both. So how can you avoid stress? Well, there are several proven tips you can follow that will certainly reduce the stress level you may feel while on vacation especially if this is your first time visiting Walt Disney World. Although veteran Disney World vacationers can do well by following these tips too. While these tips may not completely remove all of your stress, they will, at the very least, reduce a lot of stress that you might otherwise have.
Follow these tips and enjoy a stress-free trip to Walt Disney World. Oh, and many of these tips can be applied to just about any vacation as well! | ![]() |
- Plan You Days – Planning your days means different things to different people. For some, deciding which theme park they will go to each day is about as much planning as they can or will do. Others will plan every minute of the day and have everything printed out on color coded index cards to make sure they keep on track. Whatever your style, my advice is to try to plan as much as you can in advance even if it puts you out of your comfort zone.
- Make Dining Reservations Ahead of Time – With Disney‘s new dining plans, many popular sit-down restaurants sell out way in advance. Don’t wait until you get to Walt Disney World to make your dining reservations. You can actually start making dining reservations as early as 180 days prior to your arrival.
- Give Yourself Enough Travel Time – Walt Disney World is huge. It is approximately 47 square miles or roughly twice the size of Manhattan. There is a very efficient internal transportation system that can get you just about anywhere around the “world” but it can take a little time. A good rule of thumb is to plan for one hour travel time to get where you are going. Many times it will take only 20-30 minutes, depending on where you are traveling to and from. It is always less stressful to arrive early than late.
- Take a Boat Ride – I know this sounds a little strange but it is amazing how relaxing a boat ride can be. My family’s favorites include taking a pontoon boat out on Bay Lake, taking the boat from a resort to a theme park, riding the boat from Port Orleans to Downtown Disney, and taking one of the Friendship boats from one side of World Showcase Lagoon to the other.
- Plan Some Down Time – Yes, I mean plan to relax. Take a break each day, especially during the summer and peak times of the year. Get out of the crowds. Spend some time at your resort, or play a round of miniature golf, or ride the Disney World Monorail and stop at each monorail resort and then choose which one is your favorite.
- Take Advantage of Disney’s Extra Magic Hours – Spend time in the parks when they are least crowded. Enjoy strolling through a near empty park after non-Disney Resort guests have gone home.
- Use the Fastpass System – Don’t wait in line when you don’t have to. Waiting in line causes stress!
- Find a good Travel Professional – One who is an expert on Walt Disney World and let them help you. You don’t have to do this all yourself. A good Travel Professional will be able to give you many inside tips to saving you and your family time and money which always leads to reducing stress.
Remember, you are on vacation. Even if you have something planned but your family changes their mind, or something better comes up, just go with the flow. Reservations can always be canceled or changed. Memories of your family eating pizza in your room watching a Disney movie will be far more pleasant than those you’ll have by forcing everyone to go out just because it’s on the plan. A meltdown is no one’s idea of a good time!
With just a little planning, you can spend your time enjoying your vacation and not stressing over it.
